HARMAN’s Martin Professional Reveals 2015 Winners of Annual Young Lighting Designer Contest

CHICAGO, Illinois — HARMAN’s Martin Professional will be hosting exclusive open house events in Chicago, New York FRANKFURT, Germany — HARMAN’s Martin Professional today announced Jorge Espinoza as the first prize winner of the 2015 Young Lighting Designer Contest. As part of his prize, Espinoza has been awarded a trip to the Prolight + Sound 2015 show in Frankfurt, Germany where he will be formally presented as the winner at the Martin Professional stand (A93, Hall 9.0) at 1 p.m. today.

In addition to his all-inclusive trip to PL+S 2015, Espinoza has been awarded a brand new Martin M-Touch™ controller and an M-PC™ Kit. Commenting on his win, the 25-year-old from Mexico said, "I really enjoy working with the M-series as it offers the right tools to translate my ideas into real-life shows. I'm pleased and very humbled to be announced as the winner among so much talent. I wanted to share my show and my message, but I never expected to be announced as the winner. Thank you to the judges and everyone who voted for me."

Throughout the month of March, amateur lighting designers from around the world programmed their ultimate show and submitted their work to Martin’s Facebook page for a chance to win. A winner was then chosen through a simple process: Facebook users voted for their favorite shows. The three shows with the most votes were then judged by a three-person panel to determine the best show. The panel consisted of 2014 contest winner, Garou Blancan, Martin’s Senior Product Specialist, Michael Feldmann, and Martin’s Product Manager for Controllers, Paul Pelletier.

“Jorge gave us an original show that includes moves we rarely see,” said Pelletier. “The timing is spot on and the programming was structured and clean. The changes between stage light and backlight truly transform the demo stage in ShowDesigner to a fantastic grand stage. The color choices and transitions throughout the show add extra style and dimension. Jorge’s show has left us really impressed!”

Martin also awarded prizes for second and third place. The second place winner is Roman Vakulyuk from Russia. As the runner-up he will also receive an M-Touch™ control surface for Martin’s M-Series controllers. The third place winner is Ludovic Milien from France who will receive a M-PC™ kit.

“Congratulations to Jorge, Roman and Ludovic, and thanks to the rest of the participants who showed their passion, and to everyone who took the time to vote and spread the word,” said Pelletier. “We look forward to putting a new generation of Lighting Designers to the test next year.”
