LAS VEGAS, Nevada – At NAB 2013, HARMAN’s Studer is showcasing a new
range of low-cost hardware control panels for its Route 6000 and Studer Vista
and OnAir consoles, providing single key cross-point switching, or the X-Y
style operation often used in master control rooms or as remote source
selectors on mixing consoles.
Available with either 32 or 64 physical switches, they can be mounted
as 19”/2U rack mount panels or 190 mm x 80 mm DIN size modules for mounting in
mixing desks. Panels from 3rd party providers can often be too
complex for simple cross-point or X-Y requirements.
The larger 64-key panel may be configured to provide 64 x 1, 32 x 2,16
x 4 or 8 x 8 key per cross-point selection, or 48 x 16, 52 x 12, 56 x 8 in X-Y
mode, while the 32-key panel provides for 32x1, 16x2, 8x4 cross-point and
16x16, 20x12 and 24x8 X-Y modes. The keys may be legended by inserting simple
transparent labels under the transparent key caps.
Normally one or two panels may be connected directly to the Route 6000
or mixing desk. If required, up to 12 control panels may be connected via a
standard RJ45 cable to a 19”/2U power and distribution unit. This unit combines
the serial data of the control panels to a single connection to the router or
mixing desk. Communication with the router or mixing desk uses industry
standard RS422 protocols. These cost-effective control panels offer a
traditional alternative to screen-based designs.
