NORTHRIDGE, California – Delivering world-class audio to one of the most unique live
music venues in the United States, Escondido, California-based Sound Image
recently upgraded the audio system at the Lifestyle Communities (LC) Pavilion
in Columbus, Ohio with HARMAN’s JBL VERTEC® line arrays.
The LC
Pavilion, owned by PromoWest Productions, serves as both an indoor and outdoor
venue, with a single stage that can be used for the indoor space (which seats
2,200 people) or for the outdoor lawn area (which accommodates 5,000 people). A
large, single divider separates the indoor space from the outdoor space,
through which the stage—and the accompanying sound reinforcement and lighting
systems—can be moved and reconfigured. This enables the LC Pavilion to be used
year-round.
According to
Tim Burris, Director of Production for the LC Pavilion, the venue needed an
audio system to accommodate the top-level tours it hosts throughout the year. “We
needed a new system that would provide a higher level of quality for the fans
and would be rider-friendly for the touring acts that play at the LC Pavilion,”
he said.
The new
system features a total of 24 VERTEC VT4888 midsize line array elements (12 per side), powered
by 24 Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers. The Pavilion employs HARMAN’s HiQnet
System Architect™ for system configuration and monitoring.
“We were
really enthusiastic about this project because LC Pavilion is such a great
music venue,” said Dave Shadoan, President of Sound Image. “It is so unique and
is such a great space—we had a lot of fun designing the system and I think it
turned out really well.”
The VERTEC system is performing flawlessly,
Shadoan added. “It covers the venue like a glove,” he said. “There were a couple
of unique acoustical characteristics to the space that we thought might be a
challenge, but the coverage from the VERTEC line arrays turned out to be absolutely spot-on for that
venue.”
“It’s a huge
upgrade and puts us on the same playing field with other major venues around
the country,” Burris added. “The system is performing extremely well and the
touring acts that play here are very happy.”
“Sound Image
did a great job,” Burris concluded. “I have had tour managers and production
managers that are ecstatic that PromoWest hired Sound Image for this install,
because of their reputation for excellence.”
