Partnering With the Future: HARMAN Professional’s SAMBANDH 2014 Business Conference in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — HARMAN Professional’s dedication to the Indian professional audio market continues to grow stronger as demonstrated at its SAMBANDH 2014 business conference held in Colombo, Sri Lanka recently. This year’s key message was “Partnering with the Future,” with an emphasis on integrating new product lines, brands, technologies and business strategies into emerging opportunities for HARMAN Professional in India and Sri Lanka. This event also marks the addition of Sri Lanka as a portfolio market for HARMAN India’s professional business in the sub continent.

SAMBANDH is Hindi for “connection” and at this year’s 2-day conference, the HARMAN Professional India team connected with dealers, systems integrators, consultants and end users, HARMAN executives and product specialists from around the world, in an attempt to collaborate and celebrate partnerships.

Branching out from previous years’ events, SAMBANDH 2014 featured four main segments: HARMAN Conversations, HARMAN Groove, HARMAN Insights and HARMAN Live.

The HARMAN Conversations conference session was conducted in the form of an entertaining and informative talk show, beginning with a conversation between the hostess, M. Lakshminaryan, Managing Director, India, HARMAN Professional and Prashant Govindan, Director, India Operations, HARMAN Professional. Among the various topics covered through this innovative format, were updates on the macro and micro economic scenarios, HARMAN India’s business focus and an overview of business opportunities available across the AV space.

This was followed by presentations and division-specific updates by HARMAN’s T.J. Smith, General Manager, Signal Processing Business Unit; Niclas Brattberg, Vice President of Sales, Middle East & Asia Pacific, AMX; and Van Williamson, Business Development Manager, Commercial Systems. In the evening, SAMBANDH 2014’s more than 120 attendees continued their discussions at the HARMAN Groove networking dinner.

The second day’s HARMAN Insights event featured product- and topic-specific educational and breakout sessions highlighting digital mixing consoles, wireless microphone systems, installed sound systems and lighting systems. The sessions were conducted by product specialists and application engineering teams from across HARMAN’s audio, lighting and control & automation businesses.

A new addition to this year’s conference topics was social media strategy. Hosted by Bangalore based social media expert Meena Srinivasan, this session was complemented by the HARMAN Professional India Marketing team’s experience with engaging the professional audio community through various social media channels.

SAMBANDH 2014 was capped off with the HARMAN Live event at Waters Edge, a spectacular outdoor venue where a complete, full-scale stage setup included JBL’s VTX Series V20 line array loudspeakers, a Soundcraft Vi3000 console, Crown amplifiers and Martin lighting. The event blended a vibrant showcase of traditional Sri Lankan dance and percussion ensembles with performances by Colombo-based alternative rock band ‘Work In Progress’ and Natasha Rathnayake, a popular singer and performer from Sri Lanka.

“The theme of SAMBANDH 2014 was to celebrate partnerships and welcome the future. And because we had so much to communicate and collaborate on, for the first time ever have decided to host this event in the culturally rich & vibrant Colombo. Our theme of ‘Partnering with the Future’ is especially relevant as we continue to offer products and systems that provide the growing India market with a more comprehensive portfolio of audio, lighting and control solutions than ever before.” stated Ankush Agarwal, Director, Marketing, HARMAN Professional India.
