WJHW Design Outfits Ohio State University’s Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom With HARMAN’s JBL VERTEC® Line Arrays

NORTHRIDGE, California – Designed by Dallas, Texas-based consultants, Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams (WHJW) to fit the physically and acoustically demanding environment of Ohio State University’s Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom, a HARMAN JBL VERTEC® line array system has been specified to serve events ranging from concerts, presentations, commencements, as well as outside events, including corporate meetings and weddings. The VERTEC line arrays were judged to be an ideal solution for the space, meeting detailed specifications for a semi-portable and self-powered solution.

Installed by Zenith Systems of Bedford Heights, Ohio, the VERTEC system was seamlessly integrated into the venue, according to Zenith’s Joe Ockuly. “We’ve used JBL in previous large installations and have had very positive results,” Ockuly noted. “The system was easily rigged and tuned, and the University to was able to utilize the space immediately following our installation.”

The ballroom, measuring 200 by 100 feet, is capable of being divided into three sections. The new main left-right main speaker arrays include JBL VT4887ADP powered compact line array elements and VT4881ADP powered compact arrayable subwoofers, all equipped with JBL DrivePack® technology. The nine-box VT4887ADP arrays are supported by three subwoofers per side. The ceiling-mounted arrays are suspended from a single hanging point--designed to go up and down quickly to move the system outside if necessary.

“JBL has a wide range of powered line array elements and the price-to-feature ratio is always a positive selling point for our clients,” stated Brad Lundy, consultant for WJHW. “The reliability of JBL loudspeaker technology, combined with the quality and versatility of the VERTEC system, allowed us to provide a tremendous audio system for this space. The system turned out great and the client is very happy,” he said. “The VERTEC line arrays are performing exactly as they were designed.”
